The name Lincoln is of English origin and is derived from the city called Lincoln, which developed from its Roman name Lindum Colonia, meaning ‘Roman colony by the pool’. Lincoln is also used as a surname and, mainly because of Abraham Lincoln, commonly associated with strength, leadership, wisdom, and integrity.

The English city of Lincoln was founded as a Roman Legionary Fortress, probably in the 1st century. Many archaeological remains of the Romans can still be seen there today.
